From the SLI Newsletter Editor, Patrick O'Connor Articles Ten Hut! The cupboard is bare. The Newsletter staff could use some copy. Short articles. Long articles, narrow, tall, fat and skinny articles. Letters, blurbs, snippets, factoids, all are needed and welcome. Something to fill the holes that at the moment extend as far as the eye can see. It is not a pretty picture. Several articles are in the works, I know, or at least have been conceived. I hope the gestation period is not too long. Take some vitamins, get plenty of exercise and let’s get this show on the road. Perhaps we are on the downslope of a natural cycle. Spring gets the gardening juices flowing. If spring is near, can the word processors be far behind? I hope not. This concludes the nagging. Thank you for your kind attention. At ease! Pictures And one more thing (but this does not constitute nagging, since I have never mentioned it before), the Newsletter (as well as the website) is always in need of good pictures. If you have photographs of garden scenes, individual irises, or people, please consider sharing them. I can scan prints or slides to create the digital images used in the desktop publishing software and will send the originals on back to you. If you have digital images, all the better. Send them along by email or diskette. Over time I hope to build up an digital archive of photos that I can dip into whenever the need arises. Need a picture of the Vice President? Just a few mouse clicks and there he is! Another hole filled. And, of course, with a hand-some image to be admired by millions of readers. Well, maybe a few hundred, but Vice Presidents are permitted to dream. Credits Using your pictures does involve one additional step, and this is an area in which I have been remiss. In the future, I will endeavor to give credit for pictures whenever possible. For example, I have drawn heavily on a massive file of gorgeous pictures taken by Larry Anaya. The pictures in Julian Wells’ articles in the fall '99 issue were Larry’s work, as were several photos in other articles. Harry Wolford has posted quite a few pictures to the Internet discussion group, Lairis, which I saved. Several have appeared in recent issues. Heather Pryor has supplied pictures of a number of her irises. I will attempt to include a photo credits sections in each issue. Unfortunately, because I did not think through the entire process, I have quite a few pictures from sources I can no longer identify. I just saved pictures to my disk drive with no identification of source. If I should use one of yours, just let me know and I will thank you profusely.
