Growing Louisiana iris in barrels or children's wading pools is popular and practical. In dry locations, it is easier to keep the iris watered if they are in containers. The iris are confined to the container and protected from borrowing varmints. The barrels can be placed on the ground in climates without long freezing winters. In colder climates, the barrels should be sunk in the ground or otherwise protected from the elements.
